Grand Union are proudly supporting Gas Safety Week to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. Gas Safety Week is an annual week coordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas.

We are committed to visiting all properties every 12 months to check your heating system to make sure it is safe. Our dedicated heating contractors, Wheldon Contracts and Services Ltd, and their Gas Safe Registered engineers will check the system and repair any faults. Grand Union are responsible for maintaining all gas fittings and flues provided by us in your home.

We are not responsible for maintaining equipment owned by you, such as cookers, hobs or your own fires. We will check they are safe for you to use and, if necessary, we can isolate appliances from the gas supply as a safety precaution. It is then your responsibility to ensure a Gas Safe Registered engineer carries out the repairs. You can verify an engineer by going to GasSafeRegister.co.uk or by checking both sides of their Gas Safe Register ID card. GasSafeRegister.co.uk explains what you should look for on Gas Safe Register ID cards.

Following the annual safety check, our Gas Safe Registered engineer will provide you with a copy of the Landlord’s Gas Safety Record (LGSR). The LGSR is a certificate issued by a Gas Safe Registered engineer. If you lose it or don’t receive it within 28 days of the check, you can request a copy from our Customer Services Team – call 0300 123 5544 or email help@guhg.co.uk. Your next service will be due no more than 12 months following on from the date on your certificate.

If you are unsure whether your gas central heating is safe to use, contact our Customer Services Team. If you suspect a gas or carbon monoxide (CO) leak, you must immediately:

  • check if the pilot light on a cooker, gas heater or boiler has gone out and turn off the gas lever at the mains
  • open all doors and windows
  • extinguish all naked flames, do not light matches or lighters or touch any electrical switches in the house
  • get everyone out of the house and stay out
  • call the 24-hour emergency helpline of National Grid on Freephone 0800 111 999
  • call Wheldon Contracts and Services Ltd on Freephone 0800 177 7003.

Help us to help you stay safe – let us in when we need to check for gas safety. Our heating contractor, Wheldon Contracts and Services Ltd, will send you an appointment card through the post to arrange the annual safety check and service. All we ask is that you allow us access. Our top priority is to ensure you are safe in your home.
