Help with rising energy costs – council tax rebate

News – 1 April 2022

The government recently announced a £150 payment for some households, to help with rising energy costs.

If you’re liable for council tax and live in a property that’s in bands A-D, you are entitled to a one-off £150 payment from your local council. If you pay by direct debit, this will be paid to you automatically from April. If you do not pay by direct debit, your council will contact you to invite you to make a claim for the money.

If you don’t pay council tax due to your benefit entitlements, you will still be eligible to claim the £150. The money does not have to be paid back and will not count as income for means-tested benefits.
