We’re delighted that Katie Barker, Assistant HR Business Partner at Grand Union, has been earmarked as one of the brightest and best young talents in the housing sector by 24housing magazine.
Katie, 22, has made the top 20 in the Young Leaders competition 2019 – a massive achievement as the magazine has seen a record number of nominations this year.
To be shortlisted, nominees were required to have already played their part in the successes of their organisation, have bright new ideas that could change the way the sector operates and showed potential to become a strong leader.
Aileen Evans, Group Chief Executive at Grand Union, said: “Everyone at Grand Union is delighted for Katie. She has a positive attitude to work and has made a real difference to the team and the organisation.
“She supports managers with recruitment, other employee relations issues and has quickly established herself as a trusted colleague and someone that people can turn to.”
Anne-Marie Huff, Director of Corporate Services at Grand Union, added: “In just over a year with us she’s had a real impact across almost all areas of HR, from streamlining our processes to developing our HR system, enabling a paperless environment and for more things to be completed online.
“On top of all of this she’s also passed her CIPD Level 5 qualification with flying colours – no mean feat in such a short period of time.”
Mark Lawrence, editor of 24housing, said: “The Young Leaders competition shows the incredible amount of young talent there is in the sector, ready and eager to impress. Many of these are looking at becoming future chief executives in the sector.
“Reading their submissions, I think we are in pretty good hands.”
The decision on who makes it further in the competition is up to the public, with an online vote deciding who will make the semi-final of the competition.
This can be found on the 24housing website and voting closes on Friday 17 May.
