Our GiveaGift campaign benefits the Milton Keynes Winter Night Shelter

News – 21 December 2021

We were delighted to hand over sackfuls of warm items of clothes recently to the Milton Keynes Winter Night Shelter, all donated by kind-hearted colleagues as part of the housing association’s GiveaGift campaign

We run our GiveaGift campaign every Christmas, to help those in need across the areas where we work: Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Hertfordshire. Colleagues were offered a range of charitable options they could choose from, including donating money to local food banks and items to homeless shelters.

One of the ideas had been a ‘Winter warmers washing line’, for colleagues working in the Kents Hill office to peg warm items of clothing to a washing line that had been set up. The result meant that dozens of pairs of socks, gloves, hats and scarves were donated to the Milton Keynes Winter Night Shelter, along with a donation of £375 that was previously raised in a raffle, to help those in crisis this Christmas.

Isabel Kelly, WNSMK Communications Manager, said: “We are hugely grateful to Grand Union Housing Group for their support. As a charity we now provide year-round welfare – opening over summer for the first time in our history.

“We are currently seeing and supporting almost 200 people each week, and aim to help any homeless, vulnerable person or family in need, and sadly the need for our services is growing. Donations like this enable us to continue to help families and individuals, who often have no other place to turn to.”
