Angie Bott


Angie Bott, 53, was living in Brixworth, renting privately with her daughter after a relationship breakdown. Desperate for a home of her own, Angie wanted stability, not something associated with private rent, and realised her best option was shared ownership.

Angie said: “I didn’t expect to be in this situation at my time of life. I don’t have an income that would allow me to get a full mortgage. I used money left over from a previous house sale as a deposit on a new-build shared ownership house being sold by Grand Union.

Having moved into her two bedroom house in Naseby, Northamptonshire, a couple of months ago, Angie is very happy with her new home.

“I feel so lucky. Shared ownership homes can be so hard to come by – everyone wants one!

“When I was looking for my new home I wanted somewhere that was safe, comfortable and close to my work and preferably in a village location. Naseby is quiet and surrounded by countryside; it’s beautiful round here.

“This is the most remote I’ve ever been but, if I need to go to town, it’s less than half an hour to Northampton or Rugby, so it suits me down to the ground.”

Angie is a qualified nursery nurse, but her current job is as a family support worker, helping families who have children with a disability.

“My employer’s base isn’t local, but the families I support are. My hours vary but I work full-time supporting one family at a time. I love my job just as much as I love my home!

Angie has settled in well to her new home and, with scrapbooking as one of her hobbies, her next aim is to turn her spare room into a craft room that will also double up as a spare room for her baby granddaughter and any other future grandchildren.

“I would definitely recommend shared ownership for anyone who’s in the same position as me. I don’t foresee myself moving again.

“I confess that the shared ownership process did seem to be a lot of paperwork, some of which I didn’t understand. I used the solicitor Grand Union recommended and I’m glad I did. I had a mortgage advisor too which made the process so easy; they told me what I needed to do and when.

“Grand Union were so helpful and I’ll be eternally grateful.

“I absolutely love my new home, I can’t fault it!”
