Grand Union colleagues experience the Virtual Dementia Tour on World Alzheimer’s Day

News – 22 September 2022

Grand Union colleagues welcomed the opportunity recently to understand what it’s like to live with dementia, by experiencing a Virtual Dementia Tour organised by their Partnerships team and provided by Training 2 Care.

We invited Board members, Committee members and colleagues to try out the experience on World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September so that those who come into contact with people with dementia can have a new perspective on the disease.

Aileen Evans, Group Chief Executive at Grand Union, who took part in the tour said: “The tour was utterly terrifying, completely overwhelming and disorientating. I understood the importance of treating those with dementia with kindness and compassion.”

Debbie Stuart, Director of Wellbeing & Safeguarding at Grand Union said: “The virtual dementia tour is a scientifically and medically proven way to provide a person with a healthy brain the experience of what it’s like to live with dementia.

“As a result, more of our colleagues will understand the changes they can make to help improve the lives of people living with dementia, whether that’s in their work, or in their personal lives.”
