Grand Union extra care scheme nominated for national award

News – 5 October 2022

A state-of-the-art extra care scheme in Sandy has been nominated for a national award.

Grand Union Housing Group’s Quince Court has been nominated for a Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Award in the category of best purpose built accommodation, having already won the regional award for the Central region.

Quince Court is an independent living scheme that offers tailored support to people over 55 who have care or support needs. A further 25 new modern self-contained apartments, which were designed Create Architects and built by Parrott Construction, were added last year alongside the existing 30-apartment scheme.

Dave Lakin, Director of Development & Commercial at Grand Union, said:

“We’re proud to be up for this award because we believe in building high quality safe and secure homes for our customers.

“Thanks to the hard work from all of the partners involved on building the extension, Quince Court is a modern, welcoming and vibrant scheme for all families and visitors.”

Am Sondh, Director of Create Architects, said “Create Architects are delighted that Quince Court has been nominated for LABC’s best purpose built accommodation award.

“We would like to thank Grand Union for sharing our vision to provide the innovative design that looks to break the mould of housing for older people which can feel ‘institutional’ with long corridors of artificial light.”

Chris Layram, Managing Director of Parrott Construction, said “We were delighted to hear the news that Quince Court had won the LABC Regional Award for the best purpose built accommodation, and will go on to the grand finals of the Building Excellence awards 2022.

“This was a very challenging build for our team and this award recognises the skills , quality, and competency of both our staff and our supply chain.”

The awards, which will be held in London on Friday 27 January 2023, recognise and reward people in construction who work on all types of building projects.
