Electrical safety visit – FAQs
Every five years we need to test all the wiring, sockets and any fixed fittings in your home to make sure they’re safe for you and your family to use.
By law, we have to carry out this test.
If you don’t let us in to test your electrics, this puts you, and your family, at risk.
And for us, customers not being at home for their appointments costs us over £128,000 a year; that’s 51 new boilers, 25 new bathrooms or 21 new kitchens.
The electrician will check your wiring, fuse box, sockets, other equipment and switches to make sure they meet current safety standards. If there’s anything unsafe, we can fix it before it causes any harm.
Yes; that’s just a short way of saying an Electrical Installation Condition Report, the official name for this electrical safety check.
Just two hours of your time every five years.
That’s okay – just give us a call or drop us an email and let us know when’s convenient for you. Or you can visit our portal, MyGUHG, to rearrange.
Appointments are available between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and sometimes we’re able to offer Saturday appointments
Because this testing is a legal requirement, not letting us in can be classed as a breach of your tenancy agreement. This could result in legal action, you losing your home, and even you paying us legal costs.
Every room, including the loft, if you have one.

No, we won’t be testing any appliances that you would plug into sockets.
You’ll need to make sure you have credit on the meter before our visit.
We’re not inspecting your home for tidiness or cleanliness. We’re just making sure your electrics are safe.
Please remember that an adult (someone over 18) does need to be present for the duration of the visit. Please also make sure you keep any young children or pets closely supervised.
