Winter fuel payments – scam alert

Further to the recent announcement from the government about winter fuel payments, we’ve been made aware of a scam text message that is currently doing the rounds. It might say something like:

“An official reminder from the DWP. The DWP has confirmed your eligibility for a one-off grant of between £200 and £300 under the 2024-2025 Energy Support Programme. Please complete the application process.”

Please do not click on any links.

If you’re over state pension age, you don’t need to do anything to qualify for any payments as they will be made automatically.

Please spread the word to family members, neighbours and friends who may need to be aware of this to prevent them from falling victim to the scam.

And as a reminder, if you receive a suspicious text message, please:

• Don’t click any links.
• Report the scam. Forward the message to 7726 (SPAM) to report it to your mobile phone provider and then report it to Action Fraud www.actionfraud.police.uk/
• Notify your bank. If you have already provided your details, notify your bank as soon as possible.
