Sustainability

We’re doing lots of work to improve the sustainability of our organisation, the areas in which we work, and our customers’ homes.

Find out more about some of our projects below.

Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund

Our Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund project aims to make customers’ homes more energy efficient, helping to reduce energy use and improve comfort.

It’s part-funded by the government, with more money from Amplius.

Homes which have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C or below can qualify for work – our teams will contact you if your home is part of the project.

To improve the energy efficiency, we can install things including:

Many homes lose heat through their external walls, making them harder and more expensive to keep warm. External wall insulation involves adding a layer of insulation to the outside of the property, which is then finished with a protective render.

Benefits include:

  • Improved energy efficiency
  • Lower heating costs
  • Increased comfort throughout the year
  • Reduced heat loss and draughts
  • Enhanced appearance of the property
  • Lower carbon emissions.

Solar panels generate clean, renewable electricity from sunlight. By installing solar panels on suitable homes, customers can benefit from:

  • Reduced electricity costs
  • Greater energy independence
  • Lower carbon emissions
  • A more sustainable home.

The electricity generated can be used within the home, helping to reduce reliance on energy from the grid and supporting the transition to cleaner energy sources.

Air Source Heat Pumps are an energy-efficient, low-carbon alternative to traditional heating systems. They work by extracting heat from the outside air and using it to provide heating and hot water for your home, even when temperatures are low.

Benefits include:

  • Improved energy efficiency
  • Reduced carbon emissions
  • Lower reliance on fossil fuels
  • Consistent and comfortable home heating
  • A more sustainable way to heat your home
  • Support for the transition to low-carbon living.

We also need to make sure customers’ homes have good ventilation to reduce the risk of cold spots, which can lead to damp and mould in the future.

We’re also replacing old extractor fans and making sure all internal doors have a 10mm gap to improve the air flow around the home.

Enhancing biodiversity – Phase 1 habitat surveys

We’re identifying opportunities to enhance biodiversity and improve outdoor spaces for customers.

To help us understand existing habitats, species and site accessibility, we’re carrying out habitat surveys.

The findings will be used to develop Habitat Management Plans that protect wildlife, increase biodiversity and create greener, more welcoming spaces for our communities.

Customer stories

Many of our customers who have had work done on their homes have said they’re very happy with the outcome.

Here are some examples of customers who are benefitting from the work we’ve done to make their home more energy efficient and sustainable.

Sustainability frequently asked questions

Amplius has a team of Retrofit Building Surveyors and Customer Liaison Officers who oversee the programme and support customers throughout. You can contact the team by emailing [email protected].

Our main contractor is Lovell Renew. They have a team of Site Managers, Resident Liaison Officers and Labourers who can all support customers while work is being carried out on their home.

Eligibility for this project depends on many things, including the type and condition of your home, its current energy performance and whether the property is suitable for measures such as solar panels or external wall insulation.

We assess homes as part of our ongoing investment programme to ensure improvements are targeted where they can deliver the greatest benefit to customers.

To deliver as many improvement works as possible, we work on an area-based approach.  If your home is selected for improvements, we’ll contact you directly to explain more.
