Work starts on 63 affordable homes near Wisbech

Work has started to build more than 60 affordable homes in a Cambridgeshire village.

Contractors have moved onto the site on Gosmoor Lane in Elm and begun their initial building work.

We’re delivering the 63-home development in partnership with Fenland District Council.

The homes will be made available on various tenures, including social rent and Shared Ownership.

Marcus Keys, Chief Development and Commercial Officer, said: “This development will bring much-needed affordable housing to the area and provide local people with the opportunity of having a warm and safe home to call their own.

“We’ve worked closely with Fenland District Council to get to this stage and I’m delighted to see work now getting under way.

“By providing 63 affordable homes in Elm, we’ll be playing our part to help tackle the housing crisis this country faces and I’d like to thank everybody who’s been involved in the project so far.

“I’m now looking forward to seeing the building work continue and to welcoming our new customers to their homes.”

The first homes are due to be handed over to us in the Autumn, with the development completed by December 2026.

A Fenland District Council spokesperson said: “This development is a fantastic step forward in addressing the need for more affordable housing in our district.

“We’re committed to ensuring that local people have access to high-quality homes, and these 63 new properties in Elm will provide much-needed options for families and individuals.

“It’s great to see work now underway, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on the local community.”

The homes are being built by D Brown Building Contractors and Adam Mayer, Managing Director, is pleased to see work begin.

He added: “We’re delighted to be fully underway on this exciting project for the area.

“We’ve been working closely with the various design stage partners to be in a position where the new road is being constructed and piled foundations commenced.

“The support from local residents has been fantastic and we look forward to seeing these new homes progress stage by stage in the coming months.”
