Supported Housing Week

This week is Supported Housing Week and a chance for us to show the impact supported housing has on our customers’ lives.

A supported home is a lifeline for thousands of people each year who need help to live independently.

Head of Independent Living, Mark Green: “Supported housing is not simply about providing a safe place to live, it’s about creating stability, restoring confidence and opening the door to new possibilities.

“We must protect the future of supported housing, to ensure that more people receive the right support, in the right place, at the moment it can make the greatest difference.”

Some of our supported customers, and their families, spoke to us about their experiences of supported housing and the real impact their home has had on them.

Lauren, Warwickshire

“I came from sleeping on an air mattress for eight months. I’d given up hoping on finally being in my own bed, but when I finally got a property to call my own I knew I had to make it special.

“I got introduced to Patience (Supported Housing Officer) who did my pre-tenancy interview. I was very nervous of the whole process, but she made me feel at ease straight away. She was laughing and smiling and making me comfortable.

“I got accepted and it was full steam ahead – deposit done, furniture bought and moving date set! I was beyond excited.

“Fast forward to moving day, Patience was there to meet me and go through all the documents and hand me my keys. She made the paperwork make sense and broke it all down for me and gave me copies so I could read it all again.

“I started to settle in straight away, and it soon felt like home. My support was amazing, and Patience came and checked on me to make sure everything was okay.

“Overall, the transition was smooth, the support from Amplius and FineFutures has been outstanding and I can’t thank them enough. I have my own home and I’ll be eternally grateful.”

Julie, Cambs

“Moving to assisted living has had a significantly positive impact on my mother’s quality of life. Prior to moving, she lived alone and experienced social isolation, with limited opportunities to engage with her local community due to mobility challenges and personal vulnerabilities.

“Since moving to Willow Court, she has benefited from a lifestyle that combines independence, choice, and dignity with the support she requires on a daily basis. Willow Court provides a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment where she is able to maintain her privacy, personal routines, and sense of wellbeing.

“My mother now enjoys a vibrant social life, taking part in a wide range of activities, including visiting community groups, musical afternoons, and live performances organised by the Housing Manager, Sally. These opportunities have enabled her to develop meaningful friendships, remain active, and stay connected with others, while continuing to make her own choices and decisions about her life.

“The person-centred approach adopted at Willow Court is clearly demonstrated through the involvement of residents in decision-making. Residents’ meetings are held by the Project Manager, who actively seeks feedback, listens to concerns, and ensures residents are informed of actions and outcomes.

“I am extremely pleased with the standard of care and support provided, as well as the cleanliness, security, and maintenance of the building. It is reassuring to know that my mother lives in an environment where her wellbeing, independence, and quality of life are valued and promoted.”
