Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a great way to bring young, talented people into the business. We help to invest in their future with additional professional qualifications, while also offering excellent salaries.

Over the years we’ve offered apprentices in roles and departments across the organisation. These include:

  • Trades teams
  • Customer Service
  • Surveyors
  • HR
  • Finance
  • IT
  • Communications
  • and many more

We’re proud that many of our former apprentices have gone on to progress into other roles in the business including managers.

Check our current vacancies to see if there are any apprenticeships available.

Testimonials

Emily, one of Grand Union's apprentices

“I applied for the role because it was a bit different from your normal administrative job. Grand Union was a large organisation, with learning and development opportunities and was somewhere I could progress. There’s so much more to a housing association than I first thought, and I learn something new every day.”

Emily Property Compliance Apprentice

Securing my apprenticeship at Grand Union was the best thing I ever did. You an really be yourself here. I’ve developed lots of friendships, which I know I will have for the rest of my life.

My apprenticeship allowed me to work with different teams and included studying for my Level 2 and 3 qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Housing. I also worked in the Accessibility team, dealing with adaptations to homes, which was eye-opening as a wheelchair user.

After my A-levels, I knew I wanted a role in finance or engineering, but I didn’t want to go to university. I remember looking for options and seeing a finance apprenticeship at Grand Union.

I thought it would be a good stepping stone for me to become a chartered accountant. I’m pleased that there’s a pathway to progression here. I asked if I could study further, once I’d achieved my Level 3, and was told I can. I passed my apprenticeship – with distinction – and at the moment, I’m working as a Finance Business Partner on maternity cover.

I didn’t choose this career, it chose me. I was looking to do a management qualification and my apprenticeship provider felt the Trainee Development Project Manager role suited me. I finished my two-year apprenticeship, passed my portfolio, then was a Trainee, before becoming an Assistant. Now – five years later – I’m a fully-fledged Development Project Manager. I enjoy working here because there’s a healthy work environment with a real work-life balance, and there’s great support too.
