Going to vote?

A hand placing a voting slip into a ballot box

The General Election is just a month away and we’d encourage all of you to use your vote.

Remember you will need photo ID to vote in person at your local polling station. There’s more information here about what photo ID is valid: www.gov.uk/how-to-vote/photo-id-youll-need

If you don’t have accepted photo ID, you have until Wednesday 26 June to apply for a free voter ID document, called a Voter Authority Certificate. You can apply for one of these here: www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate

If an MP knocks on your door, why not ask them about their plans and thoughts on social housing? You might also want to ask them why:

  • 145,800 children are growing up in temporary accommodation
  • 19,000 social rent homes have been lost every year for the last decade
  • 90,000 social homes need to be built every year for the next 10 years to end the country’s housing emergency.

These figures were supplied by the charity Shelter, who are pushing for more social housing to be built. Their campaign ‘Made in social housing’ highlights the benefits that these homes have given people. You can find out more on their website: england.shelter.org.uk/support_us/campaigns/made_in_social_housing
